Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee site production, quality control and contractor coordination. This role is suited to a hands-on construction professional who can drive programmes, manage resources and maintain high standards of quality, safety and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage construction activities in line with project programmes, budgets and deadlines.
- Break project timelines into weekly or monthly deliverables and monitor progress.
- Drive site production to ensure project milestones are achieved.
- Communicate programme changes and project challenges to the Contracts Manager.
- Order and inspect materials to ensure the correct quantity and quality are delivered timeously.
- Monitor material wastage, preliminary and general costs.
- Manage owned and hired plant in accordance with company procedures.
- Conduct daily quality and progress inspections of subcontractor work.
- Complete quality-control checklists and maintain project quality standards.
- Compile and report weekly snag lists.
- Conduct concrete test cube procedures where required.
- Identify and appoint subcontractors according to project requirements and timelines.
- Allocate daily work to subcontractors and monitor their performance.
- Assess subcontractor work for payment purposes based on quality and progress.
- Supervise casual employees and maintain relevant wage registers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised construction site.
Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar Construction Manager or site management position.
- NTC certificate and a building industry trade qualification would be advantageous.
- Technical knowledge of the building industry, including NHBRC standards and procedures.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong planning, organising and coordination skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks, monitor performance and ensure deadlines are met.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and productivity.
- Hands-on, accountable and action-oriented approach.
