A well-established and successful Independent Power Producer (IPP) is seeking a Junior Renewable Energy Project Developer to support the development of ground breaking utility-scale renewable energy projects across Africa. This is a full-time remote role working on ground-breaking solar PV, wind and battery energy storage (BESS) projects from early development through to financial close.
You'll be working on originating and developing renewable energy projects from land identification through to financial close. That includes everything from securing land, grid connection rights and permits to managing stakeholder engagement, regulatory approvals, and commercial negotiations. You'll work closely with internal teams and external consultants to de-risk projects and ensure they're viable, financeable, and aligned with international standards. As a team member, you'll also mentor (and be mentored by) other developers, manage project portfolios, and contribute to bid submissions for both public and private off-takers. Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting site identification and early-stage project evaluation
- Assisting with feasibility studies and development assessments
- Supporting land access, permitting and regulatory processes and requirements
- Coordinating technical, environmental and commercial activities and documentation
- Review technical, environmental, and permitting documentation
- Liaising with consultants, authorities and external stakeholders
- Supporting project planning and scheduling
- Tracking development progress, milestones and maintaining project documentation
- Budgeting
- Reporting
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Commerce or similar
- Minimum 3 years' experience on large-scale renewable energy projects in Africa (PV, wind and/or BESS)
- Experience in renewable energy project coordination, planning and development processes
- Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills
- Experience in renewable energy development in Sub-Saharan Africa is an advantage - if experience includes developments outside of South Africa that is an even bigger advantage.
